Finance Minister Janis Reirs will chair the informal ECOFIN meeting in Riga 31/01/2018
On April 23 – 25, within the framework of the Latvian Presidency a number of high-level meetings will take place in Riga gathering EU Finance Ministers and other high-level experts of the financial sector.
On Thursday, April 23, Finance Minister Janis Reirs will open an international seminar (thinktank) on financial regulation and services (Eurofin) and will present achievements of the Latvian Presidency in this field. The Minister will also inform about the most important issues to be discussed at the informal meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN).
On April 24, the Finance Minister will participate in the Eurogroup meeting where it is planned to discuss the Banking Union, current economic situation in Greece, current issues related to the European Union (EU) economic growth etc.
One of the most important events within the framework of the Latvian Presidency is the informal meeting of ECOFIN Council ministers, which will be held in Riga on April 24 and 25. The meeting will be chaired by the President of ECOFIN, Finance Minister Janis Reirs.
On the first day of the meeting, participants will discuss the economic situation in the EU, its growth potential, as well as necessary structural reforms in EU Members States to promote their growth. On April 25, ECOFIN ministers will talk about the Capital Markets Union and issues related to the fight against tax evasion and aggressive tax planning.
On April 24, at 18.00, and on April 25, at 12.00, after the ECOFIN meetings, press conferences will be held where Finance Minister Janis Reirs and EC Commissioners will inform media representatives about the most important issues that have been discussed.
