Minster of Finance briefs strategic collaboration partners on the progress of financial sector reform during a visit to the US 21.10.2019
On Friday, 18 October, Minster of Finance Jānis Reirs met with Swedbank Group Chairman of the Council, Göran Persson, and newly appointed President/CEO, Jens Henrihsson, during a working visit to Washington, D.C., to discuss the bank's long-term strategic vision for the Baltic market. During the visit, several important meetings were also held with representatives of the US Treasury, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund to present in detail the implementation of the financial sector control reform in Latvia.
“Reducing and controlling money laundering risks and preventing financial crime is the highest political priority of the Latvian government now and for the foreseeable future. We are well aware that Latvia's long-term economic development and investment environment depend on our ability to mitigate these risks and ensure the integrity and stability of the financial system, while simultaneously promoting more active lending to the economy, ” stated Minster of Finance, Jānis Reirs, during the meeting with representatives of the US Treasury.
Whereas, during the meeting with the management of the Swedbank Group, the Latvian delegation was informed about the bank's future long-term strategic development in the Baltic market, which it sees as its home market.
We remind that, from 14 to 20 October, Minister of Finance, Jānis Reirs, participated in the spring meetings of representatives of the World Bank Group (WBG) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C. During the working visit, the Latvian delegation introduced its strategic collaboration partners and informed international organizations about the government's work in implementing the financial sector reform.
