On Thursday, May 15, Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens participated in the plenary session of the 34th Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London, where he expressed Latvia’s strong support for Ukraine and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to hosting the 2026 EBRD Annual Meeting in Riga. In his address, the minister emphasized the significant role of the EBRD in supporting Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion and the need to continue assisting the country both during the war and in the reconstruction phase.

“Latvia highly values the EBRD’s unwavering support for Ukraine – since Russia’s brutal invasion, the bank has invested more than 7 billion euros. Latvia strongly condemns Russia’s war against Ukraine and supports Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Our joint task is to strengthen Ukraine’s resilience and its reform path,” said Ašeradens.

During the meeting, the minister also expressed support for the EBRD’s Strategic and Capital Framework for 2026–2030, which sets the bank’s priorities for the next five years, particularly highlighting support for Ukraine and other conflict-affected countries. Additionally, given the growing financing needs, Latvia supports the bank’s focus on attracting private capital while also calling for strengthened cooperation with development partners.

During the plenary session, the Minister of Finance announced Latvia’s readiness to host the EBRD Annual Meeting of Governors in 2026.

“Riga is proud to host the EBRD Annual Meeting in 2026. It will be an important moment to highlight the cooperation of the Baltic States and the potential of the region, as well as to strengthen the EBRD’s presence and investment activity in Latvia,” the minister emphasized.
